Meal plans have been an essential part of my daily life for quite some time. I had quite a good stint of making and adhering to meal plans. But then life decided to butt in and knock me off track.
I could see a huge difference from when I meal planned to when I didn’t. The first big change was the amount of money spent on food. (Here’s a hint: it tripled, and yes, you did read that correctly.) This was a major pain and although the money was spent on easy food, it didn’t keep us quite as sated for anywhere near as long.
The second big difference was how much food I started buying. I got lazy and bought convenient and easy-cook foods, which do not last as long as making things on your own. The lack of complete meal options also led to more eating out and fast food trips which also blew out the budget.
After recognizing these problems and determining my goals for the year, it was time to change and get back to meal planning. I don’t plan to go quite as detailed with weekly meal plans, but I am changing to a monthly meal plan/idea list.
My new meal plans will be posted near the beginning of each month for anyone looking for inspiration. They are going to comprise of meals I plan to make or want to try. And they may sometimes be vague in just listing items I want to have on hand to have the freedom to make things.
And as always, I am open to suggestions for meals, especially ones loved by picky toddlers! Feel free to leave any suggestions in the comments below.
